The “Josep Coll” award for illustrated comics, organized by APIC with the support from the Department of Culture and Media of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) has two categories: one for illustrators aged between 18 and 30, and a second one for illustrators above 30.
The winning works will be edited in Catalan and Spanish by Ediciones Glénat España and the authors will receive a 6,000 euro prize, as early payment for copyright of their work.
The “Josep Coll” Award, given for the first time in 2007, replaced the “Comic Strip Contest”, organized every two years by the Territorial Services of the Department of Culture and Media of the Catalan Government. This new award includes some important quality changes that give this award a more professional touch, since it has changed from being a comic strip contest to a contest of comic albums with two categories. The award also has an important money prize and, what is even more important, we have managed to connect the professional sphere with the labour market, by guaranteeing that the winners’ works are published.
